Collin has been dating [his now fiance], Tommy for a couple of years. When we met Tommy, we could tell right away that these two were meant for each other. Tommy is a little introverted and Collin is a little extroverted, which completely compliments their relationship. When Collin asked Tommy to marry him in August of last year, we were truly happy for them and we were SO excited that they chose Mak Rabbitt to photograph their special moments.
Collin asked Tommy to marry him after a party they were hosting in August of 2015. Collin had already received permission from Tommy's Moms (yes, you read that right) and was nervous about asking Tommy. After the party had ended, Collin and Tommy were relaxing on their balcony (which has a romantic view of downtown Cleveland) and Collin asked Tommy to marry him. The very words he said to Tommy were, "So, do you wanna get married? Like, for real." How could Tommy POSSIBLY resist that proposal?! So, of course, Tommy said "yes."
Collin and Tommy were looking to have unique engagement photos taken; images that would capture their personalities. They had planned a trip to Vegas in early March of this year and asked Tony and I if we would like to take their engagement photos while they were there. We were MORE than happy to travel to Las Vegas to snap some amazing destination photos! Tony immediately began doing research on beautiful locations in Nevada. He found more than a few spots to make photo magic happen.
If you follow our blog, you will have read about our Mak Rabbitt Vegas vacation and know that we gave a sneak peak of one of Collin and Tommy's engagement photos in that blog. The one we featured in that blog is below. Tony snapped a photo of this moment as we walked the Vegas Strip. On this night, we strolled down the strip to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum inside the gorgeous Venetian hotel.
At the end of the wax museum tour, there was a gift shop and an area where you could get a wax mold of your hand. Collin and Tommy wanted their mold to be of their hands holding. Awwwwwwwwwww you guys! Apparently, the wax was a little warmer than expected (look below for their awesome facial expressions). I was quite surprised at how tedious this whole wax process was. Dipping, cooling, dipping, cooling, then the colored wax.
After a couple of dips, the wax mold was ready to come off. This was pretty hilarious. I guess it felt kinda good, but hurt all at the same time. Below you can see Collin gasping in surprise and Tommy bracing himself as the wax mold was slowly pulled off, along with some arm hair.
It was worth the pain, because here was the final product.
The next day we planned on going to The Valley of Fire National Park to do the main engagement session. We rented a Mustang (the only vehicle AVIS had left) and spent the day driving, eating and taking photos. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and these guys lets us capture some pretty awesome moments.
The next three photos are me and Tony's absolute favorites from the session. This first one looks total "Gq" to me. The second one, I have no words for. It's just amazing and captures the essence of Collin and Tommy. The third one is beautiful in two ways: the love that was captured, and the scenery that was captured. I demand that all of these images be printed and displayed in their house.
The next stop in our day was Symphony Park. Symphony Park is where the The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum and Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health are located. We used the colorful backdrop in front of the Smith Center for some photos and then used the park's beautiful lights to enhance the feeling of the night. By this time, it was dark and we were all pretty tired. Tommy and Collin were troopers. You can't even tell from the photos how sick of looking at each other they were at this point! :)
Our very last stop was at the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign because...Vegas. By this time, it was 11pm and we called it a day.
This experience was truly amazing. Not only because we got to capture two people in love, but because it was such a memorable experience all around...and this is only the beginning...as they say, "the best is yet to come." We cannot wait until the wedding next year.
Collin and Tommy,
Thank you for choosing us, trusting us and putting up with all of our crazy demands during this shoot. We love you guys!
