Two Venues in One....
We would like to take some time to discuss one of our absolute favorite Columbus, Ohio Wedding Venues. When clients, family and friends ask of for references for a venue, we froth at the mouth to tell them about Dock580, the amazing food, and amazing staff.
We were first introduced to this amazing venue through our clients Tanya & Josh, who had their June 06, 2015 wedding outside the Venue side of Dock580. We simply fell in love with the place and were amazed at how beautiful it was.
Later that year Sara and I were looking for a venue to host our own 5 year Wedding Anniversary Party and when we found an opening at Dock580 we JUMPED on it! We can tell you from a first hand perspective and from photographing numerous weddings at this venue, what an AMAZING job the staff does for their clients. From the reservation process to selecting the food, to set-up of the venue, everything went super smooth and we were most satisfied with our choice.
We recently sat down with the Director of Operations for Dock580, Jay Curati to get a better look inside what makes them so awesome and asked him a few questions to help future clients.
Question and Answer with Dock580 Director Jay Curati
We asked Jay when it all got started for them at Dock580. Jay - "It started in 1997, as Zuppa (catering and restaurants). We moved into the Venue in 2004, Loft 2009".
Jay and his team do approximately 165 weddings each year with every one very special.
We are often told by our clients "We REALLY wanted Dock580, but they were booked. So we asked how far out should a bride pay a deposit to secure your venue for her wedding day? "We tend to open our calendar in December for the following year (December 2016 for 2018). To secure our rooms, we require both a contract and deposit".
What is included when a couple books your venue for their wedding? "Better, what isn’t?! We include everything for the wedding except 6 items: alcohol (they bring it in…huge savings), decorations, entertainment, dessert, tax and gratuity".
How do you help couples customize their wedding? "We include a wedding coordinator, who works with the couple up to 9 months from their date, so there are lots of options. There are many vendors at our fingertips, too, so creativity isn’t far away".
What’s one interesting fact about Dock580? "Our buildings were constructed in 1929 and are still made up of original steel and brick. Since our inception in the event business, we’ve hosted nearly 2000 weddings".
What do you have planned for the future? "Our hope is to be able to build a 3rd location on the top of the Smith Bros. building, with glass walls/ceiling that will open to the south. The entire structure will have unobstructed views of the skyline, as well as the Short North into the campus area. Designs are still being worked out…stay tuned"!
How many guest can you accommodate? "The Venue room can comfortably sit 165 with a dance floor, closer to 200 with the dancefloor in the courtyard (tent required). The Loft seats 210".
What makes Dock580 unique? "Our team. Leadership, coordinators, culinary team and event team are all dedicated to make every event excellent. It’s never “just a wedding” to us. To be part of this day – one of the 4 or 5 biggest days in the couple's lives – is a special opportunity and we don’t take it lightly".
