Tony had the pleasure of photographing Danielle and Kevin's engagement session in October of last year. You can read about that by clicking HERE. Danielle and Kevin were engaged on 03.14.15 (that's Pi day, for all of you dorks out there, like me). Here's how Danielle described how Kevin proposed to her on that day:
"So I am a pretty big nerd, and have always wanted something amazing to happen on the biggest pi day of the century (3.14.15). Kevin and I had looked at rings already, so I knew a proposal was sometime in the future. And...I'm not gonna lie...I may have nagged for some details (yes, I'm bad!). Eventually, Kevin finally just told me, "its not going to happen for a little bit...the ring won't be ready for another couple weeks anyways". When Pi Day came, I fortunately had the day off work. Kevin came to Cincinnati and told me he had a couple things planned (but made it sound somewhat underwhelming). He wouldn't tell me where we were going, so I felt that he may have something up his sleeve, but he was pretty convincing in assuring me to not get my hopes up for the day. We started off by going to a local bar in Kentucky, where they were having an "All About Stout (Beer)Fest" - and stouts were my current favorite! Little did I know, he had a ring (NOT in a box) in his pocket the whole time. At the end of the beer fest, we walked across the bridge back into Cincinnati and spent some time at a little riverside park. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee, and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him! The day didn't end there though, we continued walking, and were soon at Pi Pizzeria for dinner (my favorite pizza place, obviously!). We ended up rounding out the night by going to a friends Pi Day party (clearly I'm not the only crazy one!). It was the best day I could have ever asked for :). I still can't believe he had a ring floating around in his giant pocket with no box...that gives me anxiety!"
Danielle and Kevin are truly a down-to-earth, fun-loving couple. Their wedding day was spectacular. It was the first actual spring-like day in Ohio this year! We had so much fun photographing this couple's day.
Getting Ready Shots
I spent some time with Danielle and her girls before Kevin and Danielle's first look. Danielle had a personalized hanger made for her dress with her new last name. She also had hangers made for her bridesmaids with all of their names on them. I thought this was a beautiful touch. The dresses were a light teal for this Springy April day.
Tony was with Kevin and his groomsmen as they got ready before the couple's first look. The guys wore gray and yellow and incorporated some crazy socks into the mix.
Pre-First Look Cocktails
The girls and guys made their way to Bicentennial Park/Scioto Mile where the first look was to take place. Before the event, the guys stopped at Milestone229 to have a pre-first look drink.
First Look at Bicentennial Park/Scioto Mile
Danielle and Kevin's first look was on the stage at Bicentennial Park/Scioto Mile. Kevin calmly waited for Danielle to be positioned behind him for the reveal. Tony and I took our places and told Kevin to turn around. Danielle got a little emotional (love it). Thankfully, her girls were there with a tissue to wipe the tears.
The Bridal Party
The composite below is one of my favorite things from this wedding. Danielle requested that everyone in the bridal party get their photo taken making a funny face. We took shots of each of them, then later we pieced them all together into one, fine-looking composite! I absolutely love how it turned out.
Bride and Groom Photos
At last it was time to take Kevin and Danielle to capture some images of just the two of them. We walked down the Scioto mile a little ways and we stopped under one of the bridges to get these shots in front of the city.
The Ceremony at Dock580
Danielle at Kevin were married in the Courtyard of "The Venue" at Dock580. The venue was decorated beautifully to compliment the awesome spring day we were having. The officiant, "The Uncommon Officiant" was truly great. He captured Danielle and Kevin's story and made the ceremony light, funny and personal. A time capsule, filled with a special beer to drink and notes to read to each other on their first anniversary was placed on a table. Instead of a unity candle lighting or sand ceremony, Danielle and Kevin chose this symbol and they each took a nail and nailed the capsule shut. After their first kiss as husband and wife, Danielle and Kevin enjoyed their cocktail hour with their family and friends.
At the reception, a bottle of hot sauce was placed at everyone's seat. This hot sauce was made by Danielle and Kevin.
The cake was made by a friend of Danielle and Kevin's. It was very beautiful. They also had various flavored truffles and buckeyes set out on the table for everyone to enjoy. They were delicious. This was the THIRD wedding in a row that had an epic cake smash. This is highly unusual. There must be something in this spring air...
Wedding Ring Detail Shots
Tony and I had a field day with Danielle and Kevin's rings, making use of all of the props they had for our creative minds at their reception.
Soon it was time for dancing and Danielle and Kevin enjoyed their first dance together, Danielle shared a dance with her and and Kevin with his mom.
To end the night, we captured some night shots using the venue and an adjoining building.
Danielle and Kevin,
Thank you for letting us photograph your engagement and wedding- it was so much fun getting to know you both and being there during all of your special moments! I will forever think of the two of you on Pi day :) Cheers!
