Tony and I met Melissa and Susan at a wedding show in Columbus. We struck up a conversation with them and after they left our area, we immediately starred their name on our list of clients that we MUST photograph in 2016. Needless to say, we were incredibly excited when they gave us a call to book their wedding with us!
Melissa and Susan are a fantastic combination- and their wedding day proved this. While things were just a little hectic in Melissa's suite at the Renaissance Hotel Downtown Columbus, Susan's room was a little more laid back. It all made a perfect balance to a perfect day. Another beautiful combination was the pairing of cowgirl boots and fancy, blue jewelry. That's not the last of the great combinations in this wedding either...
The First Look
After Melissa got into her dress with the help of her Mother, Tony and I arranged a first look for the soon-to-be wives. We used a private area inside of the hotel. We positioned Melissa at the bottom of a set of stairs while Susan was eager and ready at the top, her back facing away from Melissa. As soon as Tony and I were ready with our cameras to start snapping memories, we signaled Melissa to start walking up the stairs. Right when Melissa was at the top, we told Susan to turn around. What happened after that was a set of unforgettable memories for the two of them to share for the rest of their lives.
After we all dried our eyes, we started taking photos with the wedding party. A boot shot was an absolute must. After we got our group shots, we worked with Melissa and Susan together. We started at the hotel and then made our way to the streets of the Short North. Soon it was time to get to North Bank Park where the ceremony was being held. Susan changed into her dress for the ceremony.
The ceremony began and Susan was escorted down the aisle by her father. Shortly after they made their way down, Melissa was escorted down the aisle by her brother. Melissa and Susan's vows were said overlooking a gorgeous view of the city of Columbus. Melissa's daughter, Bella was included in the exchange of rings. It was a very special moment as they all held hands while the vows and rings were given. After the rings, the couple shared their first kiss in front of their close family and friends.
In the spirit of perfect combinations, the wedding cake(s) were spot on. If you've ever seen the movie, "Steel Magnolia" then you're familiar with the armadillo cake. Melissa and Susan had an armadillo cake sitting next to their beautiful wedding cake. Priceless. Unfortunately, I don't know if anyone got the "piece of ass" from that cake.
After toasts, dinner and cake, Melissa and Susan had their first dance together. They held each other close as they danced and sang their song.
Melissa and Susan had custom made Hershey Kisses for their guests. On the bottom of the Kisses were little photos of the couple and sayings such as "We Do" and "Happily Ever After." We grabbed some shots of this detail with their wedding rings. We also got a ring shot with a very beautiful sign that was made for them by a friend. We ended the night by capturing a photo of the mason jars that Melissa and Susan gave out to their guests as gifts. Inside of the jars were the ingredients to make delicious cookies, but that was just a bonus. Every single one of those mason jars was owned by Melissa's grandmother. So everyone got to bring home something extremely special and close to the hearts of Melissa and Susan.
Melissa and Susan, we cannot thank you enough for letting us share in your special day! We look forward to hopefully sharing a part of your future with you, too!
