How to get a Groom Excited about Wedding Photos
It's a very common thought that a wedding is about the bride and that brides are typically the MOST excited about all of the details that surround planning a wedding. As a former groom, I know the feeling about attending all of the meetings and talking to all of the vendors about napkin colors, whether orchids will work better than daisies, or if butter cream is better than rolled fondant. I knew that it wasn't about me as much as it was ensuring that my bride-to-be was happy and that she was going to have the wedding she always dreamed of.
That being said, as a photographer, the ONE thing I was honestly the LEAST excited about was the PHOTOS. Yes I just said that. I hate having my photo taken, which may be part of the reason why I chose a life on the other side of the camera. However; I did know how important these photos would be one day. I also knew how happy I would be on that day and I knew that there were going to be important and influential people there who have impacted both of our lives. This is what ultimately got me excited. In addition, I wanted to see how awesome photos the of me could be- this was my moment in the spotlight with the most important person in the world to me and I wanted to take advantage of it!
I was also excited to have photos with my family and friends who I have not seen in a while and may never get to see again for a long time, or need I say ever again. These moments from our wedding and these images are a reminder of a snapshot in time that can never be repeated or replaced with people who may no longer be with us. And this meant the world to me.
So grooms, get pumped, get excited for your photos! This is a-once-in-a-lifetime moment with the person you chose to spend eternity with, so make it count. The images will decorate your wall, fill your wedding album and tell your story to future generations. That should be enough to get you excited. We if it does not, I’ll tell you what will. When and if you have children, hearing them say, “That’s mommy & daddy on their wedding” will tear your heart right out of your chest! Having your children be able to relive your wedding day is a true gift. So if you don’t want to do this for yourself, do it for your future wife or at least your future children, and trust me you will appreciate it 10, 20 and 50 years from now.
